Mr Charles Knowles, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon from Homerton University Hospital, shared his insights on developing a career in surgery with students from Barts and the London on Tuesday 24 March 2009.

In an entertaining and informative presentation Charles outlines the current changes to training and looks at life as a consultant surgeon. In addition to advice on maximising your chances of entering this specialty area, you'll also find interesting insights into both competition for places and a personal 'antisocialty' index of the surgical sub-specialties.

Charles also highlighted the important Women in Surgery organisation that aims to 'promote surgery as a career for women and to enable women who have chosen a career in surgery to realise their professional goals'. This organisation is free to join and open to medical students.
